Students back to the ’80s

With many students spending late nights studying for exams during finals week, the Biscayne Bay Campus Office of Campus Life and Orientation is bringing students back to the ’80s.

“We want to bring back all the cool stuff from the ’80s and bring you back to when you were a kid,” said Lorie Bellot, a graduate assistant who works on Campus Life.

The breakfast will take place in Cafeteria Loggia, the space loocated behind the Wolfe University Center, on April 20. The events starts at 10:30 p.m., with breakfast being served at midnight and the event scheduled to finish at 2 a.m.

Traditional midnight breakfast fare such as eggs, pancakes, coffee, bacon and juices will be provided at the event.

“Everything comes with the works … The pancakes with strawberry syrup, whipping cream and chocolate chips,” Bellot said.

To go with the decade theme, the music played will all be from the ’80s and will range from pop and rock songs to television theme songs from shows such as the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Bellot said ’80s stars such as Michael Jackson and the actors of the show Miami Vice may also make guest appearances. However, the actual stars will not be at the event, just actors dressed in costumes.

“We want to keep a few surprises,” said Bellot. “We are going to have arts and crafts projects like when you were a kid.”

While the arts and crafts projects done at the event are not going to be unveiled until the day of, there will be rhinestones, mood rings and “a montage of all things eclectic.”

In addition to the crafts, there will be free massages, zumba classes and classic Nintendo games such as Mario Kart and card games like Uno.

“I liked it because of the food and games they had set up,” said junior Joe L. Mintz, a mathematics major. “There are many different kinds of foods, in addition to activities, massages and more, so everyone will find something they like.”

Along with the food and fun, Midnight Breakfast is a study break at its core. To help aid students in taking finals, Campus Life will provide blue books, highlighters, pens and other school supplies for free.

“It’s a fun event for everyone to come and hopefully bring that optimistic feeling into their finals,” said Bellot.
