Marvel’s upcoming projects announced, new characters emerge

By Rafael Abreu / Columnist

Marvel Studios recently announced a slew of new films that are a part of their Phase 3 of Marvel films. While many of the films mentioned are sequels, some of the titles have actually never been made into films before. As can be imagined, the hype for these films is on a level too high to measure.

AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON

This one has been known for a while and will feature the titular Ultron, as well as the regular cast of Avengers. Its trailer was leaked not too long ago and has now been seen by millions upon millions.

ANT-MAN

Originally lead by Edgar Wright as co-writer and director, the film is now being directed by Peyton Reed, whose film credits (only) include “Bring It On,” “Down with Love,” “The Break-Up,” and “Yes Man.” The film stars Paul Rudd as the titular Ant-Man, along with Evangeline Lilly, Corey Stoll, and Michael Douglas.

CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR

Based on the now classic comic book arc, Civil War will feature Captain America (Chris Evans), Iron Man (Robert Downey, Jr.), and introduce the Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman). The story revolves around the Superhero Registration Act, restricting superheroes to act under official regulation.

DOCTOR STRANGE

Being directed by Scott Derrickson, this film will be about Doctor Stephen Strange, who acquired supernatural abilities after a car accident. While rumors of who will play Strange have been floating around, nothing has been set in stone yet.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY 2

Not much info on this film right now, except that director James Gunn is returning and that the film’s release date has been bumped up by two months, now scheduled to release sooner than before.

THOR: RAGNAROK

As one can guess from the title, this third solo outing involving Thor involves the Norse end of days, and is said to take place right after “Age of Ultron.” Chris Hemsworth will indeed be reprising his role as Thor.

BLACK PANTHER

Black Panther’s solo film, also starring Chadwick Boseman. Not much info on this title, but an image of what the character looks like has been released.

THE AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR PARTS I & II

This two part epic will have The Avengers face off against the powerful, dangerous, and menacingly purple Thanos. Two other films will be in-between these two release dates.

CAPTAIN MARVEL

Marvel Studio’s first female-led superhero film about Carol Danvers, who acquires cosmic powers. Further details on this film are very much under wraps.

INHUMNAS

Based on a group of super humans, it’s said that “Inhumans” could be its own franchise or series. As might be expected, further info on this title is next to little.
