Four new additions coming to volleyball team
The FIU volleyball squad will have four new faces added to the roster in what is newly hired head coach Trevor Theroulde’s first recruiting class. Lucia Castro, Maryna Samoday, Kimberly Smith and Brittany Spencer will don the blue and gold this fall after signing National Letters of Intent.
COMMENTARY: Rough road ahead for new coach
With the exit of Danijela Tomic as head coach of the University’s indoor volleyball team, who is now the coach at Bowling Green State University, FIU faces a dilemma. Currently in the middle of a national coaching search, Director of Volleyball Operations Rita Buck-Crockett is looking for a coach to not only duplicate what Tomic did as a coach at FIU, but to also bring the program a greater deal of national attention. Sand Volleyball to begin in 2013, new courts to be built
Coinciding with Tomic’s departure was the announcement of women’s sand volleyball being added to FIU. The program is set to begin competition in spring 2013 at NCAA Division I level. According to the American Volleyball Coaches Association, there are currently 17 programs of sand volleyball in the nation. FAU and FSU already have established programs.
Tomic leaves FIU for Bowling Green

Former head volleyball coach Danijela Tomic was packing her bags too. She was not, however, going to Tampa to cheer on the Panthers. In fact, she was not coming back to FIU at all. School weight room to be named after Doctors Hospital
The weight room used by athletes at the R. Kirk Landon Football Fieldhouse will now be named the Doctors Hospital weight room thanks to the Doctors Hospital Center for Orthopedics & Sports Medicine.
