University names new CFO, Miller steps down
Kenneth Jessell has been named chief financial officer and senior vice president of FIU.
Jessell, formerly CFO of Florida Atlantic University, brings 25 years of experience to the University.
According to a press release issued by the Office of Media Relations on June 25, Jessell, as senior vice president of financial affairs, managed FAU's financial and business operations. He was also key FAU's acquisition of the Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute as well as negotiating various research partnerships.
“The principal factor in my decision to join the FIU team is the opportunity to work with Dr. Rosenberg to continue to grow FIU into one of the nation’s top public research universities,” said Jessell as cited by the press release. “He has remarkable vision and a very aggressive plan for FIU’s future. I believe I can contribute to the achievement of those goals.”
Jessell replaces interim CFO John Miller, who accepted the post of treasurer for the University of Missouri System.
“I have known Dr. Jessell for over a decade and consider him one of the most experienced and successful public university financial strategists in the country,” said FIU President-designate Mark Rosenberg in the same press release. “I worked closely with him during my tenure as chancellor and have an appreciation for Dr. Jessell’s breadth of experience, his ability to negotiate mutually beneficial partnerships and his financial acumen.
Jessell will begin his duties on July 27.
